Report: Follow-up of planning and execution of exploration drilling projects

In May 2018, we held a meeting with the Well Management company Well Expertise about the follow-up of planning and execution of exploration drilling projects on behalf of operators.

In the meeting, we requested clarification concerning the allocation of roles and responsibilities between the Well Management company and the operator in an exploration drilling project where the interaction and involvement of Well Management are crucial.

The objective of the meeting was to acquire knowledge and experience from Well Management companies by examining how the allocation of roles between operators and Well Management companies is accomplished. We also wanted a better understanding of how the companies plan and execute operations in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Topics discussed in the meeting included:

  • Organisation and management system used for exploration drilling activities
  • The company’s planning and execution of drilling activity on behalf of operators, especially with regard to the company’s own activities, organisation, resources and competence
  • System for non-conformity handling and management of change
  • Rig acceptance and the company’s activities relating to this
  • Allocation of roles and responsibilities in connection with an exploration drilling project
  • Emergency preparedness organisation for well incidents, including Well Incident Team with appropriate capacity and competence

The results are summarised in the attached report.
