Consent to carry out exploration drilling with Ocean Vanguard - 16/2-17 B

Statoil Petroleum AS (Statoil) has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 16/2-17 B at the Johan Sverdrup field with the Ocean Vanguard mobile drilling facility.

In February 2013, Statoil received consent to drill appraisal well 16/2-17 S at the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea, and has now received consent to drill exploration well 16/2-17 B as a sidetrack to this.

The rig’s position during drilling will be:

  • 58° 48' 16.00" North
  • 02° 31' 45.75" East

Water depth at the site is 111 metres.

Drilling of the main well started on 21 March 2013. Including the sidetrack well, the activity will have a duration of up to 150 days.

Ocean Vanguard (above) is operated by Diamond Offshore with operations offices in Stavanger and with technical and operational support from the company’s office in Aberdeen.

The facility is registered on the Marshall Islands and Det Norske Veritas is the classification society. Ocean Vanguard was built in 1982 and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in July 2004.
